In preparation for PoLs, today students will be given the opportunity to catch up on any of the assignments thus far that they did not complete during the designated class period. Begin by considering the assignments that should be completed in your individual work folders: Assignment Notebook
Identify an assignment that is incomplete or needs revisions. When you have chosen one to work on, put your name on the board along with the name of the assignment. When you have finished the assignment, erase it from the board and read silently. You are only allowed to read the independent reading book if you are all caught up in the class book.

Within your tables create a symbol that presents the type of conflict assigned to your group. Draw the symbol on the note card provided. On a second note card, explain the symbol and how it represents the conflict.

Select your two favorite characters from the novel. After answering each question, provide a specific piece of evidence from the text to support your ideas. Put this evidence in quotation marks along with the page number in parenthesis afterwards.

Parking Lot Create a giant square in the middle of the parking lot. Divide that square in half so that it creates four boxes. Label the four boxes:
Step 1: Turn and talk with the person next to you. Come up with one example from the novel that represents each of the four categories. Jot down notes/ideas to share as a group. Step 2: Each group shares their example for Environment. Record the example in the Parking Lot box. Repeat for Culture, Physical Surroundings and Social Dynamics. Mix n' Mingle | Setting Each person in the room will be given an image that shows a particular setting. When directed, move around the room searching for the person with an image that has an OPPOSITE setting from the one you have. Discuss how the settings are different and how those settings would affect a person living there. Have the room stand in the circle. Each pairing will then share information about their setting:
